Over a mile and a half, Four year old Harbinger was rated the world’s best horse before the injury. At the King George VI, Sir Michael Stoute trained Harbinger, culminating in an astonishing victory. The July win was in a record time and by eleven lengths. With Harbinger’s performance among the top times in fifty years for a Group One at Ascot, it was a truly astounding race.
Owners of Harbinger, the Admiral Rous syndicate, will allow Herbert and John Warren to explore all sale and stud opportunities for Harbinger. Harbinger does not need much in the way of promotion, with his incredible King George VI victory fresh in the minds of breeders. Harbinger had won the last four races he had been entered in, in addition to the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
However, as a stud stallion, Harbinger’s value is currently being debated. Some questions about his short distance speed are potential negatives among some breeders and a bit of a decline at the end of his third year. Whether Harbinger will be moved to a stud career is a decision yet to be publicly announced.
